Cooler weather may bring us crisp cold air, brightly colored leafs, and pumpkin everything but did you know it also brings changes to our body? Beyond the need to throw on a sweater, seasonal change can affect us physically as well as hormonally, so as we head into autumn here’s just a few of the things you should look out for:
You Might Sleep More Than Normal
With a change of season comes to your body trying to adjust. You’ll find that you are getting a few more hours of sleep in, but you still might be a little bit groggy. The repeated hitting of the snooze button is due to the shortening of the days, which throws off our body’s internal clocks. Though you might be getting more sleep — the quality isn’t much better as the ultraviolet rays of the sun are what keep our sleep clock in check. So the change in sunlight can really mess with your body, making a nap more necessary than ever.
Lowered Immune System
As the weather begins to chill, germs and allergens run wild. The cooler and dryer the air the more likely the flu is to rear its ugly head. Mix in the pollen and mold, and you are putting your immune system through the ringer. One way to keep the germs at bay is to be mindful of your handwashing. A regular diet and exercise is also a wonderful way to give your immune system that jumps it needs to fight off any germs that might come its way.
You’re In the Mood More
Not only are you more fertile come fall, but you’re also more in the mood too! As summer ends testosterone and estrogen levels begin to rise, with the increase in hormones comes an increased libido from both sexes. Also, sperm count is higher than it was in the summer making chances of conceiving higher and higher as the late fall and winter months go on. The optimal time to conceive — Late November to December. So if you are looking to start a family of your own, now is the perfect time to start!
